Ethics Bowl Team earns 2nd place at 2018 Southeast Regional Ethics Bowl competition

Barry University’s Ethics Bowl Team earned a second-place finish Nov. 10 as they travelled to the University of North Florida for the Southeast Regional Ethics Bowl competition. The team consisted of five debaters — Llona Kavege, Angela Duff, Antonio Rodriquez, Karla Moran, and Ruht Lovos-Chicas; four researchers — Yessenia Baxter, Amanda Hibbert, Shatavia Whitehorn and Georganne Yarbenet; and two faculty coaches — Dr. Sandra Fairbanks and Dr. Joel Wilcox from the Department of Theology and Philosophy.

The team’s second-placed finish second came after defeating Seton Hall University, the University of Baltimore, Wake Forest University and Auburn University. Barry’s Ethics Team lost by two points to Rollins College in the championship round. Second place was still enough to earn Barry’s team an invitation to the National Championship Competition in Baltimore, Md., on March 3, 2019. Only four teams out of 20 advanced from the regional to the national competition.

This will be the Ethics Team’s sixth appearance in their 13-year history at the National Championship Competition.
