College of Arts and Sciences/DEAN’S AWARD 2020

Sciences and Mathematics: Lilyveth Mesa

A double major in chemistry and biology, there is no doubt that Lily will be a great physician, the one who cares for patients regardless of their socio-economic background and the one who will be thoughtful and compassionate. She will make sure that she has the necessary knowledge to cure her patients as she already has a strong foundation in science. In addition, she has the courage to speak up on behalf of those in need and she has the ability to convince others to follow her lead.

Humanities and Fine Arts: Michidael Ceard

It has been a great pleasure to have Michidael as one of the exceptional students in the Department of English and Foreign Languages. As a transfer student, Michidael Ceard began her education as an English major at Barry in fall 2018. With strong determination, she is also graduating from the Honors Program and with exceptional records of leadership and service. She will continue her strong commitment to making a difference in this world. We are very proud of her accomplishments!

Social and Behavioral Sciences: Mateo Gomez and Antonio “Toni” Rodriguez

Mateo found a natural fit with his interests in law, politics, and media communications. He was able to supplement his classroom learning with many amazing experiences including being on TV, hosting Barry's first TEDx talk, interning with judges, traveling to various conferences, representing Barry students at the state capitol, and interviewing community leaders for his radio show or the student newspaper. What a full and outstanding set of experiences that Mateo enjoyed at Barry!

Toni dove in to leadership roles with Student Government, the Florida College Democrats, and as a CCSI Barry Service Corp Fellow. Toni organized numerous events to raise awareness about immigration policy, the plight of Dreamers, gun control policy, and voting rights among other policy issues. Toni is ready to put his experience and skills to work in effecting positive change in his community and in the world.
