MIAMI, Fla. – Barry University has recently been honored as a College of Distinction for the 2014-15 school year for providing students with the highest level of undergraduate education. The College of Distinction designation recognizes select schools for excellence in student-focused higher education.
Schools are selected based on college counselor recommendations and research, and evaluated on excellence. To earn a spot on the Colleges of Distinction List, an institution must demonstrate excellence in four areas: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant communities, and successful outcomes. Barry was selected for its focus on service learning and its obligation to fulfilling its Core Commitments. Barry’s impressive 14:1 student-faculty ratio and its dedication to creating lively student life also contributed to its selection.
High school college counselors and educators nominate colleges and universities for recognition by Colleges of Distinction, which then evaluates each school based on qualitative and quantitative research. Unlike other collegiate profiling listings, Colleges of Distinction are not ranked but instead are members of a consortium of other equally impressive institutions.
Colleges of Distinction looks beyond rankings and test scores to find colleges that are the ideal places to learn, grow, and succeed. The selection process reviews such factors as the school’s first year experience, general education program, experiential components of the curriculum, the strategic plan, and alumni success and satisfaction.
Barry joins the ranks of more than 290 institutions throughout the U.S. on the Colleges of Distinction list. Barry is one of seven universities in Florida, and one of only three in South Florida, to earn the College of Distinction classification. In addition to its placement on the Colleges of Distinction listing, Barry also earned Catholic Colleges of Distinction and Florida Colleges of Distinction designation.
