Ex-Buccaneers Baseball Pair Shining in Pecos League

Former Barry University baseball players Charley Short and Matt Petty are enjoying great seasons for the Roswell (N.M.) Invaders in the independent Pecos League.

Short, a right-handed relief pitcher from Miami, was voted to the All-Star Game. He has five saves, a 0.87 earned run average and 21 strikeouts in 10 1/3 innings while appearing in eight games this season. Short has allowed one earned run this year.

Petty, an outfielder from St. Petersburg, is hitting .370 with six home runs, 20 RBI and six doubles.

Petty led the Buccaneers in hitting in 2010 when he batted .379, while crushing nine homers and 55 RBI. Short was 4-1 for the Bucs that season. Short went 11-3 with a 3.66 ERA and team-best 65 strikeouts in 2010.
