MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University’s baseball team continued its strong tradition of community service by participating in the 5K Walk/Run for Haiti at the Miami Zoo Saturday, Oct. 20th.

Coach Pavao and his Buccaneers joined over 700 participants and volunteers in order to raise funds for Haiti Benefit, “Hand in Hand for Haiti”.

“Hand in Hand for Haiti” is a collective response to the humanitarian crisis in Haiti following the catastrophic earthquake that hit the country on January 12, 2010.

The project, which has generated extraordinary support, has built a world-class educational facility in an area of great need. The school, Lycée Jean-Baptiste Pointe du Sable opened on October 3, 2011.

The school is free to all students and 100% of the funds raised go directly to the school. All the fund raising costs are underwritten by members of the Travel Retail Industry.  The school has been operating for over a year now and currently has over 150 students and will expand each year to a total enrollment of over 700 students. All students are provided with a world class, tri-lingual education, medical and dental care, food and uniforms.
