Barry Hosts 3-on-3 Basketball Tourney to Support Leukemia
Barry will host a 3-on-3 basketball tournament for males and females Dec. 8 to benefit the Cesar Odio Leukemia Foundation.

Barry University's Department of Campus Recreation & Wellness and the men's and women's basketball teams will host a Layups for Leukemia 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament to support the Cesar Odio Leukemia Foundation on Saturday, Dec. 8 in the Health & Sports Center.

In April, Barry men’s basketball head coach Cesar Odio was diagnosed with Leukemia for the second time. Odio has coached with the Buccaneers’ program for 18 years, directing Barry to three NCAA Division II National Tournaments and establishing a school record for wins (23) in a season twice.

“Coach Odio has been there for so many of us throughout his 18 years here at Barry,” Bucs assistant men’s basketball coach Ryan Saunders said. “We need to come together and show our support for him as he has done for us over the years. He is a fighter, a winner and an unbelievable coach. He truly cares for each and every one of his players, and it is his personal goal to see that his players succeed on the court and in life.”

The tournament is open to Barry students, staff, alumni, members of the community, and friends and family of Odio. Teams of no more than five players will be separated into three divisions:

NBA – players with former college experience
NCAA – anyone without collegiate varsity experience
WNBA – women players

Registration is $75 per team. Donations to the Cesar Odio Leukemia Foundation are also being accepted.

Players will receive t-shirts and gift bags. Winners from each division in both the team and three-point individual competitions will receive trophies. Lunch and drinks will be available.

Additionally, a silent auction will be held at the tournament for a chance to win NBA World Champion Miami Heat and Miami Marlins tickets, Miami Dolphins items, Baccus Global LLC, Nike items, a foursome golf outing at a local course, restaurant gift cards and a seven-night Caribbean cruise with balcony accommodations for two.
