Bucs Women's Hoops Cruise to Win at PBA

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Barry is starting to put it together.

The Buccaneers collected their ninth win of the season, beating host Palm Beach Atlantic, 59-38, Wednesday at Rubin Arena.

“It was a solid win,” Barry senior forward Amanda Frontino said. “I thought we played really good defensively.”

The Buccaneers (9-4) held Palm Beach Atlantic (4-13) to 15 of 50 field goal shooting, and committed just nine personal fouls. The Bucs were in control the entire way.

“We’re definitely getting our chemistry on the floor,” Frontino said. “We’re making sure we cohesively play together.”

Tyler Hardy scored with 16:50 to go to give the Buccaneers a 12-point lead.  Hardy pushed the lead to 15 at the 12:56 mark on a feed from Jackie Perez. Dominique Dixon scored on a fastbreak with 12:21 to go to put Barry ahead 41-24.

Alesha Jenkins scored with 8:16 to go to give Barry a 48-31 lead. The Bucs extended their lead to 21 with 6:21 to play when Colette Eule sank a free throw, but the Sailfish trimmed it to 52-35 on Kimyatta McIntosh’s layup.

The Bucs outrebounded the Sailfish, 46-26.

Barry shot 48 percent in the second half, hitting 12 of 25 field goals.

Frontino and Hardy each scored 15 points. Perez had 11. Frontino grabbed eight rebounds. Perez had three assists. PBA’s Ashley Dolberry scored 12 points and had nine rebounds.  

Frontino hit her first five shots, helping Barry get out to an eight-point lead in the first half. Frontino scored 13 points in 12 minutes the first half, going 5 of 8 from the field.

“It’s always good to contribute in points,” Frontino said. “I think I came out here today calm and relaxed and ready to hit some shots finally.”

Barry outrebounded Palm Beach Atlantic, 23-14, in the opening half. The Bucs shot 8 of 26 from the floor for 30.8 percent. PBA was 6 of 24 for 25 percent.

The Sailfish attempted only 10 free throws, going 4 for 10. Barry was 13 for 26.
