Women’s Basketball Rolls Past Rival 'Knights

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University’s women’s basketball team climbed back to .500 in Sunshine State Conference play with a 71-59 win over rival Lynn University Wednesday night at the Health and Sports Center.

Barry (10-5, 3-3 SSC) led at the break in what developed into a close contest throughout the first half, but he Bucs used a 16-7 run which was capped by a Tyler Hardy bucket with under two minutes to go to push the lead to eight.

Colette Eule scored nine of her game-high 21 points in the first half and although the Buccaneers controlled the game in the opening period, the ‘Knights (9-7, 2-4 SSC) trailed by just six at halftime.

Coming out of the intermission the Buccaneers continued their strong shooting and finished 47 percent from the field as a team and converted 13-16 from the charity-line despite not attempting a free-throw in the first half.

Trailing by two points with just over nine minutes to play, the Bucs went on a 22-7 run, capped by a pair of free-throws from Eule, to grab a 13-point lead, the largest deficit of the game, with just two minutes to play.

Alesha Jenkins helped close out the win as she finished with a career-high 16 points and seven rebounds. Tyler Hardy chipped in 10 points.

The ‘Knights had three players score in double figures with Sharneka McCatty and Zachara Bailey leading the charge with 15 points each. Nina Guillaume added 10 points and six rebounds.

The Bucs travel to Rollins on Saturday to battle the Tars with the tip-off scheduled for 2 pm at the Alfond Center in Winter Park, Fla.
