WINTER PARK, Fla. – Barry University women’s basketball’s comeback effort fell short Saturday in a 77-66 loss at No. 13 Rollins. The Buccaneers fell to 10-6 overall, 3-4 in the Sunshine State Conference.
The loss halted a brief two-game winning streak for the Buccaneers.
Barry never led in the game, but made a late push to slice a double-digit lead to a two-possession game before the Tars (16-3, 5-2) put together another surge to ice it.
Alesha Jenkins canned a 14-foot baseline jumper, and Nyjah Porcher knocked down a transition bucket on the next trip down the floor as the Buccaneers pulled within eight with 13:27 to play. Rollins ran the lead back to 14 before Colette Eule drained a 3-pointer at the 11:53 mark as Barry trimmed it back to 11. Porcher’s jumper in the paint at the midway point brought the Bucs within nine.
Kaylia Richardson scored with 6:40 remaining as Barry cut it to 63-56. Richardson scored again inside 5:00 to make it a five-point game. The Tars went on a 5-0 run to bump their lead back to 10, and the Bucs could not recover.
Tyler Hardy scored 24 points on 9 of 16 shooting, and grabbed seven rebounds. Eule had 14 points, and Richardson eight points and five rebounds. Ines Kerin matched her season-high with seven assists, and had five rebounds. Rollins’ Sarah Blackburn scored 17, and Sarah Taylor had 16.
Rollins led by 15 in the half at the 7:31 mark. The Buccaneers shot 7 of 28 in the first half for 25 percent. Rollins was 13 of 32 for 40.6 percent.
Barry outscored Rollins, 41-38, in the second half. The Bucs shot 41.3 percent for the game, going 26 of 63. Rollins was 27 of 61 for 44.3 percent. Barry was 4 of 19 from 3-point range, while the Tars were 8 of 17.
