ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Barry University women's golf team won the Flagler Fall Slam Tuesday, shooting 307 in the second round to win by 17 strokes.

Barry carded a 296-307 -- 603 on the par 72, 6,062-yard Marsh Creek Country Club. The Buccaneers tied their own record at the tournament, having shot a 603 to win the Oct. 27-28 Fall Slam event four years ago. Barry's 296 in the first round was the lowest single round since the tournament moved to Marsh Creek in 2010.

It is Barry's first tournament victory of the season. Flagler finished second at 622. The Buccaneers had a 15-stroke lead after the first round when they shot their best round of the season.

"We obviously played pretty well yesterday," Buccaneers coach Shannon Sykora said. "Today the conditions were pretty hard."

Barry's Nancy Vergara shot 2-over 72-74 -- 146, finishing second by a stroke to Armstrong Atlantic's Jenna Birch, who won the tournament with a 75-70 -- 145.

Vergara had three birdies in the final round, including two on the back nine to draw within contention of winning. Birch had four birdies, and shot 2-under for the day.

Barry's Nicky Ferre shot 71-78 -- 149, finishing fourth at 5-over. Maria Paola Fiorio carded a 76-77 -- 153. Taylor Babcock shot 77-78 -- 155. Daniela Murray shot 77-81 -- 158.

"They played pretty solid, but the course wasn't playing easy," Sykora said. "They kept their composure down the stretch, which I was happy about."
