MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University women's golf coach Shannon Sykora announced the signing of Carolina Heredia.

Heredia, a Bogota, Colombia, native will begin competing for the Buccaneers in the fall. She intends to pursue a degree in sport management from Barry's School of Human Performance and Leisure Sciences.

"We are very happy to have Carolina join the Barry Bucs," Sykora said. "She is a great athlete who will come in right away and contribute."

Heredia is the fifth-ranked women's amateur player, according to the Colombian Golf Federation.

Heredia won the Colombian Senior National Championship 16-player match-play title March 8-10 at San Andrés Golf Club de Funza. The tournament is the oldest and one of the most respected events in Colombia.

Heredia, the No. 3 seed, beat Ana Maria Uribe, the eighth seed, 6 & 5 in the finals. She won all four of her matches with at least three holes to go.

"She's relatively young to the game, yet she's long off the tee and has a great feel for the game," Sykora said. "We're real excited to have her here at Barry."
