Volleyball Downs Knights In Four
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Camilla Pagnan recorded a double-double (26 kills, 13 digs) to help lead the Barry University volleyball team (11-15, 3-7 SSC) to a 3-1 Sunshine State Conference win over the Lynn Fighting Knights on Saturday afternoon at the Health & Sports Center. The Buccaneers won by scores of 30-28, 25-30, 30-28, and 31-29.
 
Heading into Saturday’s match, the Bucs were looking to rebound from a 3-2 loss to the Knights (17-9, 3-7 SSC) earlier this season in Boca Raton. By match end, Barry managed to even the season series a 1-1 successfully defending their home court piecing together a pair of wins for the first time since Sept. 29.
 
Despite hitting a .182 team percentage in the first game, Pagnan and Caitlin Shawver each recorded four kils to paced the Buccaneers to a 30-28 to take a one game advantage. After going point-for-point in the opening minutes of game two, Lynn rallied to take the lead 13-12 and led the rest of the way to even the match at one game apiece.
 
Down 22-17, Pagnan led with eight kills in game three to help Barry come from behind and tie the set at 28 all. However, Shawver recorded back-to-back kills to give Barry the 30-28 win. The Bucs were down again in game four 17-11, but managed to chip away at the Knight lead to tie the set 29-29. Stefanie Sveiven recorded the next kill to give Barry match point and Pagan put the game away for the 31-29 win.
 
Pagnan hit a .303 clip and finished with a match-high 26 kills and added 13 digs for the double-double. Shawver followed with 15 kills and Samara Ferreira added 10 kills for Barry. Maria Romanowski recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 57 assists and 10 digs and Lauren Evans collected a match-high 24 digs.
 
Four Knights posted double-digit kills led by Camilla Lins’ 14. Irmina Zamara followed with 13 kills, while Daris Rodriguez and Sophie Gagnon added 11 and 10 respectively. Gagan added 12 digs to her resume for the double-double, while Devon Woolard dished out 32 assists. Christie Schade recorded 12 digs.
 
The Buccaneers will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 30 hosting the Eckerd Tritons at 4 pm in the Health & Sports Center.
