MIAMI SHORES, Fla. --  The Barry University women’s soccer team (8-9-0, 2-6-0 SSC) concluded the 2007 with a 3-0 win over Saint Leo University (14-3-0, 6-2-0 SSC) on Saturday afternoon at Buccaneer Field. The Bucs handed the Lions the shut out at a crucial time in the Lion’s season. Should the Lions had won this match, Saint Leo would have gained only its second conference title in any sport in all of school history.

The Lions’ keeper Lauren Hudson made it a habit of coming out of her box during most of play, so the Bucs decided to teach her a lesson. With the net empty, Barry’s Elanna Brady assisted Damarys Mendez on her second goal of the season.

Senior Maya Ozery made this game a true Senior Day as she added two more goals for the Bucs. Ozery headed one goal in off of a 45-yard free kick from teammate Michelle Tarsiuk at the 46th minute mark. Then with less than five minute remaining, Ozery taught Hudson that lesson one more time as she chipped the keeper from 22 yards out.

The Buccaneers close out the 2007 season and bid farewell to two seniors this season, Ozery and Jenna Cernuto.

Tonight Cernuto made her 75th appearance as a Buccaneer which ties her for fifth all time in games played.  A versatile player, she has filled various positions for the Bucs on the field and is one of only a handful of five-year letter-winners in the school’s history.  During her career, she added three goals and three assists to the Bucs’ schedule while putting almost 60 percent of her shots on frame. Cernuto also excels off the field as a physical education major and psychology minor, earning spots on both the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll and the Barry University Dean’s List

Ozery joined the team last year and stepped in to started all 17 games for the Bucs and lead the team in goals, assists and points. She scored three goals in 2006 with two game winners. This year, she has started 15 times in her 16 appearances, and has provided the Bucs with four goals for the season. An intelligent player, she has been instrumental to her team both on and off the field as she was selected to represent Barry University at the 2007 NCAA Leadership Academy.
