WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Barry University volleyball team (11-19, 3-11 SSC) wrapped up a four-match Sunshine State Conference slate this week with a fourth straight loss, this time 3-0 to the Rollins Tars (18-16, 5-9 SSC) on Sunday afternoon at Warden Arena. The Buccaneers lost by game scores of 30-24, 30-24, and 30-22.
 
In the first game, the Buccaneers took an early 12-10 lead, but the Tars scored the next three points to take the lead and outscored the Bucs 20-12 the rest of the way to win the set one 30-24.
 
Rollins exploded out of the gates to take a 24-14 lead in the second game, but the Bucs showed their resiliency and went on a 10-2 run to pull within two. However, the Tars scored the final four points to win the set 30-24.
 
With a two-game advantage, the Tars continued to control the pace of the match in game three and held on to win 30-22 to take the match in three games.
 
Caitlin Shawver was the Bucs’ primary option offensively picking up 14 kills on 47 attempts. She was the only Buccaneer to collect more than seven kills. Maria Romanowski dished out 32 assists while Spenser Rigg and Lauren Evans collected 15 and 12 digs respectively.
 
Stephanie Nichols paced the Tars with 14 kills and added 10 digs for the double-double. Christina Reinders followed with 12 kills and 15 digs, while Lorean Orlandini hit a .381 clip and recorded 11 kills. Setter Lacey Malarky dished out 36 assists.
 
The Buccaneers will return to action on Friday, Nov. 9 hosting the Tampa Spartans at 7 pm at the Health & Sports Center.
