Men's Basketball Falls to Canes In Exhibition Play

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Barry University men’s basketball team closed out their 2007-08 exhibition schedule falling to the NCAA Division I Miami Hurricanes 82-50 on Tuesday night at the BankUnited Center.
 
To open the game, Miami’s Jack McClinton nailed back-to-back treys and Eddie Rios added a solo three that ignited a 17-0 run in the first 7:41of the half. After over nine minutes of scoreless ball, Chad Bishop finally put the Buccaneers on the board with a lay-up at the 10:25 mark.
 
Outmatched, the Buccaneers continued to struggle the entire first half managing only 16 points and went into the break, down 40-16. McClinton hit five-of-six three-pointers and scored 17 points in the first half for the Canes, while Chad Bishop scored seven for Barry.
 
Coming out of the break, the Bucs’ offense found its mark more often and doubled their score within the first 8:48. Karega Tucker scored 10 of the Bucs’ 34 second-half points, but they still fell 82-50 at the buzzer.
 
After shooting only 29.2 percent from the floor in the first half, the Buccaneers managed to be more efficient than the Canes in the second half shooting 46.4 percent. The Canes fired 40.5 percent in the second period.
 
Miami’s McClinton and Dwayne Collins combined for 30 of the Canes’ 82 points. McClinton finished with 20, while Collins added 10. Collins also collected 10 rebounds for the double-double.
 
Tucker led the Buccaneers with 11 points, while Bishop finished with 10. Rookie Willie Whitfield led Barry with six boards.
 
The loss concludes the exhibition season for the Buccaneers. They will open regular season on Friday, Nov. 9 at the Disney Tip-Off Classic taking on Stonehill at 2:30 pm in the first of three games.
