MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Princess Bailey scored a game-high 14 points to lead the Barry University women’s basketball team (5-0) to a 71-24 win over the Puerto Rico-Cayey Toritas on Saturday afternoon at the Health & Sports Center.
 
The Buccaneers extended the season-opening win streak to five games for the first time since the 2000-01 season when the Bucs started the year 6-0. Barry also set a school record for fewest points allowed in a single game holding the Toritas (0-4) to a mere 24 points.
 
Bailey scored eight of her game-high 14 points in the first 3:11 of the second half of play that helped the Bucs extend their lead to 33. By the end of the game, all 16 Barry players on the roster put in at least six minutes on the court to help Barry preserve a 47-point win margin.
 
Barry’s Christina Thompson added 11 points, while Lucy Martinez recorded eight rebounds and five assists. Bailey also reeled in eight boards. The Toritas were led by Nicole Davila with 10 points, while Angela Nieves collected a team-best seven boards.
 
The Toritas scored the first basket of the game for an early 2-0 lead, but Christina Thompson nailed three of four three-point attempts that sparked a 17-2 Barry run. Thompson scored all 11 point in the first half.
 
The Buccaneers will be back in action on Monday, Nov. 26 facing Palm Beach Atlantic at 7 pm in West Palm Beach, Fla.
