WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Princess Bailey (Jr. Miami, Fla.) scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Barry University women’s basketball team (6-0) to a 58-49 come-from-behind win over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish at Rubin Arena on Monday night.

The Buccaneers managed to overcome an 18-point deficit in the first half to take the lead and an 11-point deficit in the second for the win. Bailey led the charge with 10 second-half points, while Lucy Martinez contributed eight.

Bailey paced the Bucs with her 19 points and eight rebounds, while Martinez grabbed 10 rebounds and scored 16 for the double-double. Kristy Singletary dished out seven assists and Amanda Mageean added nine points.

At the start of the second half, the Buccaneers were up by one. The Sailfish, however, started the second period in much the same fashion as they did the first. They opened the half with an 18-6 run to take a 41-30 lead with 10:12 remaining in the game. But over the next five minutes, the Buccaneers came back and scored 17 points to regain the lead 47-46 at the 5:23 mark. From there, the Bucs never relinquished the lead for the win.

In the first half, the Buccaneers were ice cold from the floor and missed their first 25 shots. After the Sailfish opened the game with a 19-1 run, the Buccaneers managed to hit eight of their last 17 and went on a 23-4 run to close out the half with a 24-23 lead.

Kim Kelly led Palm Beach’s scoring with 18 points. Brooke Burgess hit the double-double with 12 points and 11 boards, while Haley Adcock recorded five blocked shots.

Barry hit only eight of 43 attempts from the field for an 18.6 field goal percentage before halftime, while Palm Beach Atlantic shot 34.9 percent.

The Buccaneers will return to the friendly confines of the Health & Sports Center on Saturday, Dec. 1 hosting the Florida Tech Panthers to open Sunshine State Conference play.
