Men's Basketball Drops Heart-Breaker To Tars

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Rollins Tars hit four of five from three-point range in the second overtime period to knock off the Barry Buccaneers 86-81 in Sunshine State Conference men’s basketball action in the Health & Sports Center on Wednesday.
 
The Tars (15-2, 4-2 SSC) hit six three-pointers in overtime after connecting on only eight during regulation. Both the Buccaneers (6-12, 0-6 SSC) and Tars made 14 three-pointers for the game, however Barry shot a school –record 52 attempts, while Rollins took only 31. The 52 attempts broke the mark of 33 set against Florida Southern on Feb. 23, 2002.
 
Jeremy Sharpe led the Tars with a game-high 26 points, while Craig Reichel added 17 points and nine assists and Jonny Reibel had 18 points and 14 rebounds. Kevin Hogan had 13 points for the Tars. Chad Bishop led Barry with 17 points, Uli de la Vega had 13, while Martin Leibovich and Gabe Lazo each had 11. Willie Whitfield contributed a double-double, 10 points and 10 rebounds, off the bench.
 
The Bucs trailed 36-28 at the half, but opened the second period with a 14-0 run to take a 42-36 lead on Lazo’s jumper in the lane. Barry stretched the lead to eight points, 54-46, on a three-point play by Whitfield at the 11:35 mark.
 
But the Tars made an 18-6 run, taking a 64-60 lead at the 3:31 mark on a jumper by Nick Wolf. Leibovich and de la Vega hit layups in the final 1:28 to send the game to overtime.
