MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers closed out the 3rd Annual Barry/Nova Softball Invitational with a couple of wins on Sunday at Buccaneer Field, beating Eckerd 12-0 in five innings and knocking off Nova Southeastern 3-2.

In the second game, Natalie Heeley drove in Ashley Likens from third base in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs with a single to centerfield. Katie Pepper very nearly caught the final drive, laying flat out, but the ball trickled away and Likens crossed the plate with the game-winner for Barry (4-2).

The Bucs rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the fifth inning. Likens drove in Brittany Anderson with a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded and Amanda Goelz singled home Shyla Rider to tie the game.

Nova Southeastern (3-3) built a 2-0 lead thanks to Rachel Talenfeld and Ashley Baker. In the first inning, Talenfeld reached on an error and Baker delivered an RBI double. In the third inning, Talenfeld reached on a bunt single, stole second and third and came home on Baker’s groundout.

Amber Jack (2-0) went the distance for the Bucs, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk. She struck out six. Dani Caron (1-3) took the loss for the Sharks. In 6.2 innings, she allowed nine hits, walked three and struck out one.

In game one, the Bucs struck early and often against the Tritons. Rider went four-for-four, scored three runs and drove in three. Christina DeTagle, Megan Young and Anderson each had two hits. Anderson scored twice and Goelz drove in two.

Jessica Bevlin (1-0) earned the win in her first collegiate start. She tossed the five-inning shutout, allowing just one hit and two walks, while striking out two. Christina Hughes (0-2) took the loss for Eckerd (0-5). She gave up nine runs (six earned) on 12 hits and neither walked nor struck out a batter in 2.2 innings.

The Buccaneers travel to Palm Beach Atlantic on Tuesday, Feb. 12 to face the Sailfish at 5:30 pm.
