MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Sixteen-point performances by junior Karega Tucker and freshman Willie Whitfield could not remedy the Buccaneers' (6-16, 0-10) winless record against SSC opponents. Despite the solid effort, Barry fell 62-47 to visiting Eckerd (13-7, 6-4 SSC).
Whitfield’s two free-throws with 2:39 left in the first half tied up the game 21-21 but over the remainder of the half, Tritons built a five-point lead 28-23 behind layups by Zaronn Cann and Josh King.
Tucker dished out 10 points in the second half to lead the Bucs however, the Tritons proved to be too much. Over the final 8:00 minutes, Barry could not get within 10 points of the Eckerd lead.
Junior Bryan Astigarraga tallied an eight-point performance and Whitfield had a team-best six rebounds.
Damone Morris scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Tritons. Marcus Washington was one rebound shy of a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds on the night.
Barry will be on the road this weekend as they travel to Lakeland to take on Florida Southern on Saturday, Feb. 9th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
