LAKELAND, Fla. – The Buccaneers (6-17, 0-11 SSC) gave Florida Southern (18-6, 9-2 SSC) a scare in the always hostile Jenkins Field House but fell 78-75.

Barry jumped out to a five point lead early on in the second-half 62-59 on three-pointer by sophomore Chad Bishop with 9:47 left. Over the following five minutes Florida Southern converted five consecutive three-pointers to gain a 74-67 advantage. The resilient Buccaneers continued to fight as junior Karega Tucker scored on a layup and senior Gabe Lazo nailed a three-pointer to cut the Mocs lead 74-72. The Bucs continued to pressure Florida Southern over the remaining minute; however, Barry could not get over the last hump in the upset effort.

Three Buccaneers finished with double-digit performances. Tucker had  a game-high 23 points, Bishop racked 18 and Lazo tallied 11.

Despite the loss, Barry outshot the Mocs 47.1% (32 of 68) to 45.3% (29 of 64) from the field.

Florida Southern was paced by Cameron Wooten and Rion Rayfield with 18 and 17 points respectively.

The Buccaneers will return to action on Wednesday, February 13th when they travel to Boca Raton to take on Lynn University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
