PHOENIX, Ariz.—The Barry Buccaneer rolled the San Francisco State Gators 8-0 in the quarterfinals of the Gold Bracket at the 2008 Shutt Sports/NCAA Division II Lead Off Classic at Rose Mofford Park on Friday night.

The Bucs struck early and often to end the game by run rule after five innings. Amanda Goelz got the Bucs (7-2) on the board in the first inning. With Ashley Likens and Megan Young aboard with two outs in the first, Goelz drilled a pitch from Kendra Wood (0-1) deep into the right centerfield gap, scoring both runners.

After Cristina DeTagle squeezed in Holli Davis in the second inning to make it 3-0, the Bucs exploded for four unearned runs in the fourth, aided by a pair of Gator (5-8) errors. Shyla Rider had an RBI single, Likens added a sacrifice fly and Young capped the inning with a run scoring double.

In the fifth, the Bucs loaded the bases with no one out and Brittany Anderson responded with a single to Sara Hipson who had doubled to lead off the frame.

Amber Jack (4-0) picked up her second win of the day, going all five scoreless innings and holding the Gators to just two hits. She induced nine groundball outs and struck out four without walking a batter. Wood took the loss for the Gators working a complete game and allowing eight runs (three earned) on 10 hits and two walks.

The Bucs will face the Lumberjacks of Humboldt State in the semifinals on Saturday at 9:00 am.
