PHOENIX, Ariz.—Megan Young tossed her first career no-hitter and Ashley Likens hit a three-run homer to lead the Bucs to a 6-0 win over UC San Diego in the championship game of the 2008 Shutt Sports/NCAA Division II Lead Off Classic at Rose Mofford Park on Saturday afternoon.

Young (3-2) held the #6-ranked Tritons without a hit over seven scoreless innings, walking two and striking out seven, including Jenny Maze with runners at first and second in the seventh inning to end the game.

The Bucs jumped out in the front in the first inning as Amanda Goelz singled home Shyla Rider with the only run Young would need. Holli Davis added a two-run double in the frame and the Bucs led 3-0 after one over the Tritons (11-3) who had not allowed a run in two games in the Gold Bracket.

In the fourth, Likens connected on her third homer of the tournament, a mammoth shot to left field that scored Brittany Anderson and Rider.

Melissa Ward (5-3), who had pitched a one-hitter against Eastern New Mexico and a no-hitter against Dixie State in the bracket, took the loss for the Tritons. She allowed all six runs on eight hits and a walk in 3.2 innings, striking out four.

The Bucs travel to Decatur, Ala., for the UAH Charger Chillout next weekend, with six games against South Region opponents on slate.
