MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers made it three in a row over Sunshine State Conference women’s tennis opponents with an 8-1 win over the Tampa Spartans at the Buccaneer Tennis Center on Saturday.
After sweeping through the doubles, the Bucs took five of six singles to earn the win. Barry’s 13th-ranked duo of Ildiko Csordas and Angie Werschel shutout Kourtney Stark and Lindsey Garyn 8-0 at number one. At number three, Olivian Lilien and Laime Contreras handled Ally Wooten and Lisa Montgomery 8-1. Caroline Stevens and Helen Wisniewski ran into some stiffer competition, but prevailed 8-4 over Caitlin Scudder and Emily Kennedy.
In singles, Csordas quickly made it 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Stark and Wisniewski took care of Garyn 6-1, 6-0 almost as quick.
Saskia Kruse posted the shutout, 6-0, 6-0 over Montgomery at number six. Berit Peterson made it 7-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Scudder at number three and Julie Cadet beat Wooten 6-3, 6-1 at number five.
After splitting sets at number four, Contreras fell in a super tiebreaker to Kennedy 6-4, 1-6, 12-10 for the only Spartan point.
The Bucs will face off on Sunday at NCAA Division III Brandeis Judges at 11:00 am.
