Men's Golf Finishes Tied at 14 at Braveheart Classic
Carlos Velez (+15) finished tied for 22nd out of 95 individuals to pace Barry.
BEAUMONT, Calif. – The Barry University men’s golf team battled the infamous Santa Ana winds of the West Coast and finished tied for 14th out of 16 teams at the Braveheart Classic on Tuesday afternoon. The Buccaneers shot a three-round score of 946 (+82) on the 6,960 yard, par-72 Oak Valley Golf Club course.
 
Cal Poly Pomona (+36) finished with an eight stroke lead over the 16-team field to claim the team championship, while UC Riverside (+44) finished second with a three-round score of 908. UC Santa Barbara (+46) finished two strokes behind Riverside in third place and Texas Christian (+48) finished fourth. Kansas State (+54) rounded out the top five team scores.
 
Playing in a predominately NCAA Division I field, Barry’s Carlos Velez finished T22 out of 95 individuals with a three-round score of 231 (+15) to pace the Buccaneer efforts. Guillermo Pumarol (+24) and Sebastian Pinzon (+25) finished T68 and T71 respectively, while Matt Jonah (+27) finished T75. Chris Carlin (+30) finished 86th to round out the Buccaneer team score.
 
UC Riverside teammates Nick Paez (+4) and Spencer Paschall (+4) finished tied for the individual medalist honors with three-round scores of 220.
 
The Buccaneers will be back in action on Mar. 16-18 at the Southeastern Collegiate hosted by Valdosta State at Kinderlou Forest Golf Course in Valdosta, Ga.
