MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The sixth-ranked Barry University softball team (25-2) closed out tournament play at the Barry Buccaneer Spring Fling with another pair of wins on Sunday afternoon. The Buccaneers defeated Millersville 8-0 in six innings and Southern Connecticut State 10-1 in five at Buccaneer Field.

In the two games, Ashley Likens went 4-for-6, drove in four runs and scored twice to help pace Barry, while Shyla Rider was perfect 4-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBI. Megan Young led the core of Buccaneer pitchers with 12 strikeouts.

In the first game, the Buccaneers picked up an 8-0 win over Millersville (8-7) in six innings. Likens drove in three runs for the Bucs including two in the first inning that helped give Barry a 3-0 lead after one. The Bucs scored single runs in the second and fourth innings, before a three-run sixth ended the game due to NCAA run rule.

Young (8-2) tossed the two-hit shutout and struck out 12 to earn the win, while Janelle Mrakovich (3-4) gave up eight runs (five earned) on eight hits and walked three in the Marauder loss.

After falling by only three runs on Saturday, Southern Connecticut fell victim once again to the Bucs this time 10-1 in five innings. The Buccaneers led 4-0 after two innings, but erupted for a six-run fourth inning that eventually ended the game early. Rider and Amanda Goelz both drove in two runs for the Bucs.

The lone run for the Owls came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Megan Caporossi belted a solo home run in right center. Amber Jack (14-0) went three innings without giving up a run to earn the win, while Jessica Bevlin tossed the final two innings and gave up one run. Amanda Pindar (1-2) suffered the Owl loss after giving up seven earned runs through three innings.

The Buccaneers will return to action on Tuesday, Mar. 25 hosting the Lynn Fighting Knights in the first of a three-game Sunshine State Conference series.
