MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The seventh-ranked Barry Buccaneers used a strong singles lineup to upset the third-ranked Lynn Fighting Knights at the Buccaneer Tennis Center on Tuesday.
The Bucs (11-3) took two of three doubles and four of six singles to run their Sunshine State Conference record to 5-0.
The Knights (9-4, 2-1 SSC) grabbed the first point of the match when Lorenzo Cava and Tomas Racak defeated Emmanuel Fraitzl and Jakub Fejfar 8-3 at number two doubles. But the Bucs bounced back to take the remaining doubles. Patrick Rittenauer and Ales Svigelj defeated Julien Carsuzaa and Diego Rodriguez 8-6 at the top flight, while Andrew Sharnov and Roman Werschel made it 2-1 with an 8-5 win over Alessandro Sarra and Axel Joachim at number three.
In singles, tenth-ranked Cava bumped off #12 Rittenauer 6-4, 6-3 at number one and #44 Racak gave the Knights the lead with a 6-4, 6-4 win over #49 Werschel at number four.
But 43rd-ranked Sharnov dispatched Sarra 6-3, 6-4 at number five and Fejfar made it 4-3 Barry with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Joachim at number six.
Fraitzl clinched the win with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Rodriguez at number three and unranked Svigelj defeated ninth-ranked Carsuzaa in a third-set super tiebreaker, 3-6, 7-5, 10-8.
The Bucs are off until Mar. 29 when they host the Florida Southern Moccasins at the Buccaneer Tennis Center.
