Rowing Varsity 8+ Win Silver Medal at SSC Regatta

FELLSMERE, Fla. – Barry University’s varsity 8+ [Athena Corodimas (cox), Janelle Cross (stroke), Robin Cascioli, Elise Carlson, Rebekah Evans, Stephanie Ricker, Stephanie Logsdon, Rhiannon Doka, Summerlin Knipe] had a strong outing at the 2008 Sunshine State Conference Championship Regatta with a second place finish in the grand finale.
 
In the final of the varsity 8+, the Buccaneers challenged eventual champion Nova Southeastern the whole length, even with strong head winds. It was not until the last 600 meters that the Sharks were able to pull away and win with a time of 7:52.8. Barry finished with an 8:02.9 showing. Rollins rounded out the event with a time of 8:29.6.
 
In the preliminary heat, Barry dominated the waters beating Tampa with a time of 7:43.4. The Spartans finished with a time of 8:29.6.
 
Nova Southeastern University claimed its second consecutive Sunshine State Conference Rowing Championship by sweeping the 2008 regatta. The Sharks claimed 20 team points with the two first place finishes in the varsity 8+ and the varsity 4. The University of Tampa was the runner-up with 15 team points.
 
The varsity four featured Florida Tech, Nova Southeastern and the University of Tampa. Nova took the event with an 8:48.1 finish. The Panthers took second place with a time of 8:52.9 and the Spartans finished third at 8:59.7
 
The Buccaneers look to keep the momentum going heading into the Dada Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pa. next week.
