AMERICUS, Ga.—The Barry Buccaneers started their season off on a high note by beating the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes 3-0 on Thursday.
The Bucs struck early, scoring twice in the first half. Their first goal came when Vuk Kovic scored 7:53 into the game off of an assist by Mark Anderson. The Bucs scored again at 22:46 when Andres Perez intercepted a Georgia Southwestern pass and blasted the ball past the Hurricane goalkeeper.
The final point for the Bucs came during the second period when Ricardo Ramirez dived for a pass, and slipped the ball into the net. Pedro Petris snuck the pass through two Hurricane defenders to earn the assist.
The Buccaneer defense set the tone early, only allowing Georgia Southwestern four shots, while Barry blasted 14. Barry goalkeeper, Devala Gorrick had one save. John Scharnikow had four saves for the Hurricanes.
Barry is on the road against Clayton State University on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 4:00 PM.
