MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry University women’s soccer team moved to 4-1-0 on the season after a 5-0 win over Palm Beach Atlantic (1-3-0) on Wednesday night.
Sarah Wolfer scored the only first half goal. Emily Bourgoine chipped a pass into the middle where Wolfer was waiting. After a few dribbles, Wolfer slid the ball past a diving Ashley Morrell in goal.
The second half saw the Buccaneers score four more goals. Michelle Tarasiuk crushed the ball into the goal from 25 yards out at 49:49 after receiving a pass from Wolfer. At 58:49, Morgan Ault earned her first goal of the season off of a 30-yard rocket that made it over the head of Morrell.
The Sailfish’s frustration was clearly visible as they were cited for two yellow cards and one red card in the second half. The red card came as a result of goalkeeper Morrell tripping Emily Bourgoine from behind during the 72nd minute. Morrell was ejected, and Bourgoine easily slipped the penalty kick past the backup goalie, Grace Alfredson. The Sailfish were a player short for the remainder of the game.
The final Buccaneer goal came with 10 minutes left in the game when Ashley Brower slipped a pass to the right side where Kalie Adkinson blasted it in from 27 yards out.
Sami Cromartie and Danielle Rezendes combined in goal on the shutout for the Bucs. Cromartie stopped five shots in 63 minutes of action, while Rezendes played well but did not face a shot over the last 27 minutes. Sailfish keepers Morrell and Alfredson combined to stop 14 of the Bucs' 35 shots to keep the game for getting completely out of hand. The 'Fish also swept a header by Joanna Stewart off the line after a corner kick and the Bucs hit the post twice.
The Bucs return to action on Saturday, Sept. 13 at Eckerd at 7:00 pm as they open up Sunshine State Conference play.
