LANTANA, Fla.—The Barry University Women’s soccer team beat Palm Beach Atlantic (1-8-1) for the second time this season on Tuesday night by a score of 4-3.
Both teams scored early in the first period. PBA scored first at 38:40 when goalie Sami Cromartie deflected a shot. PBA’s Lindsey Bates was waiting and put the ball into the right corner. The goal was her first on the season.
One minute later, The Bucs (6-4-1, 1-1-2 SSC) tied the game off of a give-and-go corner kick situation. Holly Bain received the corner kick from Joanna Stewart, and assisted Emily Bourgoine on the goal. PBA scored the next two goals to take a 3-1 lead.
With five minutes left in the first period, the Bucs edged closer to victory when Elanna Brady scored on a penalty kick situation. The Bucs went into intermission down 3-2.
The second period belonged to the Bucs as they scored twice more. At 35:49, Sarah Wolfer converted when PBA was unable to clear a loose ball from the box. The goal was Wolfer’s sixth for the season.
Michelle Tarasiuk scored the game-winning goal with 22 minutes reaming in the second period, Allie Llaneras aided on the assist. The goal was Tarasiuk’s fourth for the season and her first game-winner.
For the Sailfish, goalkeeper Ashley Morrell faced ten shots-on-goal, and had six saves. She moves to 1-8-1 for the season. Cromartie faced five shots and had two saves. Cromartie improves to 6-4-1.
The buccaneers return to action against Tampa on Friday, Oct 3 at Buccaneer Field at 7 pm.
