Contreras Falls in Back Draw Finals

WINTER PARK, Fla.--Laime Contreras fell in the back draw finals in both singles and doubles at the CL Varner Memorial Invitational.

 

In the back draw of the B Flight singles, Contreras defeated Hillsborough CC's Laure Blassi 8-3 toreach the final, but fell 8-4 to Veronica Kovacikova of Florida Southern.

 

In the back draw of the A Flight doubles, Contreras and partner Angie Wercschel reached the finals with an 8-4 win over Nova Southeastern's Edita Kulichova and Karolina Porizchova, but fell in the final to NSU's Ulia Talelenko and Justine Feaster by an identical score.

 

 

WINTER PARK, Fla.—Angie Werschel fell in the semifinals of the A Flight at the CL Varner Memorial Invitational on Saturday.

Werschel upset top seed Jenny Frisell of Central Florida 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. But in the semifinals, fifth seeded Senka Softic of Florida Southern bested the Buccaneer 7-6 (4), 6-2.

In the B Flight singles back draw, Laime Contreras reached the semifinals with an 8-1 win over Jasmyne Smith of Hillsborough CC. She will face HCC’s Laure Bassi in the semifinals.

 

 

WINTER PARK, Fla.—Angie Werschel advanced to the quarterfinals of the A Flight at the CL Varner Memorial Invitational hosted by Rollins College on Friday.

 

Werschel knocked off eighth seed Nadzeya Bondar of Hillsborough CC 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 in the first round, then defeated Rollins’ Stefaniya Tkach 6-1, 7-5 to advance to the quarterfinals. She will face the top seed, Jenny Frisell of Central Florida on Saturday.

 

In the B Flight, Laime Contreras fell to Armstrong Atlantic’s Kathleen Henry 6-1, 6-0. Contreras will continue on Saturday in the backdraw.
