MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry men’s soccer team lost 3-2 in double overtime to the Tampa Spartans at Buccaneer Field on Saturday night.
Jordan-Peter Moses, who entered the game for the first time just two minutes before, scored on a rebound from a shot by Ryan Maxwell in the 107th minute after the Buccaneer defense gave the ball away in the back.
The Spartans (9-2-1, 3-2-0 SSC) led 2-0 after an own goal by Barry’s Rodrigo Macenido and a strike from Maxwell after another defensive miscue.
But Vuk Kojic led the Bucs back by scoring twice in 0:27 seconds in the second half. At 79:55, Wendell James cross the ball over to Ryan Alexander and Alexander slotted it through to Kojic who went one-on-one and beat Spartan keeper Ryan Thompson. Less than half a minute later, Sascha Koettig slipped a pass up through the middle of the Tampa defense to give Kojic another open opportunity.
Thompson and Barry’s Devela Gorrick were outstanding in the goal, with Thompson making 15 saves and Gorrick 10. In addition both teams also swept balls off the line.
The Bucs (9-3-0, 2-3-0 SSC) will now host St. Thomas on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 7:00 pm.
