BOSTON, Mass.--After a three year hiatus, the Barry University rowing team returned to The Head of the Charles Regatta to open their 2008-09 season, placing 22nd of 34 boats in the collegiate women's 8 event.

"This was a very technical race course," head coach Dave Sanderson said. "It was a real challenge, but the crew did a tremendous job navigating the course."

The varsity eight (coxswain: Priscilla Donohue, stroke: RobinCascioli, Renee Forcier, Elise Carlson, Rebekah Evans, Vanessa Viadero, Summerlin Knipe, Rhiannon Doka, bow: Stephanie Logsdon) raced through the first checkpoint at the Riverside Bridge with a 4:27.605. They passed the second checkpoint in 10:53.502, and through the finish line at the Cambridge Boathouse in 18:02.755.

The race was a solid opening race for the Bucs who still have two more events in the fall season.

"This was a great first race, as the girls had a pretty good row," said Sanderson. "The Head of the Charles is a fun race to attend and compete in, but we will be looking to improve on our results."

The rowing crew returns to action on Saturday Nov. 1 at home in a duel meet with Nova Southeastern and the University of Miami.
