WINTER PARK, Fla.—The Barry University volleyball team beat the Rollins College Tars on the road, 3-1, on Friday evening. With the win, the Bucs avenged an earlier home loss to Rollins and improve to 11-7 and 3-6 in the SSC.
Barry began the match well, winning set one 25-23. Rollins (16-13, 2-7 SSC) jumped out to a four point lead early in the set going up 8-4 with the help of four Buccaneer mistakes. Rollins held the lead throughout most of set one until Barry began to storm back at 17-20. The Bucs took the lead 21-20, taking the next four service points led by three combined kills from Meisje-Sable Burton and Camilla Pagnan, and a Rollins error. Kills by Stefanie Sveiven, Pagnan and Julia Ridley would help the Bucs end set one.
Rollins evened up the score in set two with a 25-11 win. The Bucs gave away nine points to the Tars off errors, seven of which were attack errors.
In set three, the Bucs got out to quick lead of 12-4. Pagnan helped with three kills while Ridley and Samara Ferreira added one apiece. Rollins worked hard to get back in the game, coming within two points at 19-17, but were unable to close it out as a kill by Danielle Bishop and two Tar errors ended it with Barry winning 25-22.
It appeared set four would be close as the teams were even through 8-8. Barry took the next four points off of three kills and an attack error by Natalie Branche. After a timeout, Rollins took three of the next four points to put the game at 13-11. The Bucs earned the next six points, to go up 19-11, as Bishop, Pagnan, and Burton combined for four kills and setter Libby Walter added an ace. Barry closed out the match with six kills and a Pagnan ace, winning 25-16.
Three Buccaneer hitters saw double digit kills: Pagnan had 19, while Ridley and Burton earned 10 apiece. Libby Walters had 33 assists and Lauren Evans had 26 digs.
The Buccaneers return to action on Saturday, Oct 24 on the road against Florida Tech at 7 pm.
