MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University women’s volleyball team earned a Halloween win against Tampa, 3-1, in the Health and Sports Center on Friday nght.

The Spartans (22-3, 9-2 SSC) took the first game 25-18 with the help of 18 combined kills.
The second set belonged to the Buccaneers (12-9, 4-8 SSC). The game was close at 10-10 before Barry earned seven of the next eight points to go up 17-11 with the help of a kill apiece by Julia Ridley, Romina Powers, and Stefanie Sveiven, and an ace by Camilla Pagnan. From that point, three kills by Pagnan and a number of Spartan mistakes helped Barry to a 25-17 win.

Set three was a bit closer. Barry took the first three service points off of three Tampa errors; they led at 12-10. The Bucs earned four of the next five points to go up 16-11. Six Buccaneer kills and a pair of huge blocks, one by Samara Ferreira and Danielle Bishop, and the other by Ferreira and Pagan, helped the Buccaneers close out the set, 25-20.

Set four was all Bucs as the team pushed out to an 8-4 lead helped by kills by Pagnan, Sveiven, Ferreira, and Julie Priester, who added an ace as well. Barry pushed the lead to 14-7 before Tamp took a timeout. The Buccaneers continued to stretch the lead, going to 16-10 and 20-13. The Buccaneers took five of the final seven points with kills by Pagnan, Julia Ridley and Powers, who ended the game, blasting a ball past the Spartan’s libero, Camila Saade.

All the Buccaneers got involved in the win. Pagnan led the offense with 25 kills and .389 hitting percentage. Ridley, Bishop, and Powers combined for 18 kills, while the team had a .357 hitting percentage. Priester and Libby Walter combined for 44 assists, while Lauren Evans led the defense with 16 digs.

The Buccaneers return to action against Eckerd on Saturday, Nov 1 at 4:00 pm in the Helath and Sports Center.
