MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University women’s volleyball team lost in straight sets to the Eckerd Tritons on Saturday afternoon in the Heath and Sports Center.

In the first set, Eckerd (18-11, 6-6 SSC) coasted to victory, winning 25-16. The Tritons combined for 14 kills in the first set to help them to victory.

The second set was much closer than the first. Eckerd stormed out to a 6-1 lead two aces and two Buccaneer errors. The Bucs worked their way back to 10-11 with kills by Camilla Pagnan, Meisje-Sable burton, Julia Ridley, and Amy Manke. The Bucs stayed within two points of the Tritons throughout the end of the game as Eckerd won 25-23.

Set three came down to the wire, but eventually ended in the Bucs losing 27-25. The Bucs and Tritons were even through 10-10, before Eckerd took five of the next six points to go up 15-11. Barry worked to stay in it and caught the Tritons at 16-16 with the help of two Buccaneer kills, two Triton errors and an ace by Julie Priester. The Buccaneer’s first lead of the third set came at 18-17 when Adriana Chinn attacked the ball into the net. The Bucs led or were tied with the Tritons through the next 15 service points before Eckerd won the final two points, to win the set and match.

For the Buccaneers, Pagnan had 18 kills, while all Buccaneer hitters combined for 37. Libby Walter had 21 assists and Lauren Evans had 14 digs.

The Buccaneers return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 5 against Nova Southeastern in the Health and Sports Center at 7 pm.
