MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— The Barry University volleyball team earned an SSC win over Nova Southeastern, 3-0, on Wednesday night in the Health and Sports Center.

Set one was all Barry as the Bucs (13-10, 5-9 SSC) stormed out to an 8-3 lead with the help of six Shark errors. Nova (20-8, 8-4 SSC) got close at 10-8, before Barry took eight of the next 11 points to go up 18-11. Julia Ridley and Camilla Pagnan combined for five kills in the run. The Bucs coasted to victory, winning seven of the next 10 points led by Pagnan who had three kills, to take set one 25-14.

Set two saw Barry get out to small leads of 4-2 and 9-6 before Nova turned it on. Nova took the next four service points to go up 9-10 on the Bucs. After a timeout, Barry jumped back in it with the help of two kills by Meisje-Sable Burton, and one apiece by Ridley and Stefanie Sveiven to go up 16-13. The Bucs maintained the three point lead through 20-17 until an attack error cut the lead 20-18. Barry would earn five of the next seven points to win the match 25-20.

The final set came down to the wire as seven lead changes took place. The score was tied early at 2-2 until a Buccaneer attack error and a kill by Nova’s Christina Chubb put the score at 2-4. Six service points later, the game was again tied at 6-6 before Barry earned 10 of the next 13 points to take a five point lead at 15-10.During the run, Libby Walter racked up a kill and two aces.

Nova fought back to tie the game at 16-16, and then went on a small run to take a 17-19 lead. Barry earned three of the next four points to again tie the game at 20-20. Barry would end the game off a number of Shark errors, and with four kills, three by Pagnan and one by Julie Priester.

For the Buccaneers, Pagnan had 17 kills, while all Buccaneer hitters combined for 36. Walter served three aces and had 27 assists. Burton added two aces while Lauren Evans had 11 digs to lead the defense.

The Buccaneers return to action on Friday, Nov. 7 at 7:00 pm at home against Palm Beach Atlantic.
