MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—In their season opener, the Barry University men’s basketball team handed Florida Memorial University a convincing loss, 64-47, Wednesday night at the Health and Sports Center.

The first half stayed close as the Buccaneers carried a four point lead into the break. Karega Tucker led the Bucs in the first half with eight points and four steals. On the way to a huge night, Willie Whitfield had six points and five boards at the break.

The Buccaneers owned the second half. They began to pull away five minutes in following a Chad Bishop layup to put the team ahead by ten. With a little over eight minutes left in the game, Barry pushed the lead to 13 at 47-34 with a thunderous dunk by Whitfield. Chad Bishop got involved too, adding all eight of his points in the second half.

For the Buccaneers, Whitfield recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds (six offensive) on nine of 12 shooting from the floor. Tucker recorded 13 points, four assists, and four steals.

The Buccaneers return to action on Tuesday night at 7:00 pm against Puerto Rico-Cayey in the Health and Sports Center.
