Big Runs By Air Force Too Much For Women's Basketball

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Barry University women’s basketball team couldn’t have asked for a better start then what they had Monday night.

The Bucs jumped out to a 9-0 lead over the opening three minutes against Division I Air Force and led 18-9 after nine minutes, but the Falcons used two big runs of 17-0 and 20-0 to hand Barry their first loss of the season, 56-43.

Barry (6-1) benefited from a pair of 3’s from Princess Bailey to help build the early nine-point advantage.
Shanna Suttington helped keep the lead at nine at 18-9 with a jumper at the 10:51 mark.

Team at summit of Pikes PeakThe Falcons (2-4) then began their 19-0 run that was finally snapped with 19 seconds left in the half on a three-pointer by Alexandra Henri to help Barry close to within seven.

The Bucs stayed with Air Force throughout the second half, as Barry regained the lead at the 10:50 mark on a Lucy Martinez trey to make it 36-34.

Less than a minute later, Barry would be their largest lead of the second frame on a Suttington three to expand the lead to five.

AFA would then rattle off a 20-0 run to put the game out of reach.

Mariesa Greene just missed another double-double for the Bucs, as she finished with nine points and 13 rebounds.

Martinez and Bailey each chipped in with eight points apiece.

The game at Air Force finished a 2-1 Colorado road trip for the Bucs, as they will now get to enjoy a game at home at the Health and Sports Center this Saturday when they open Sunshine State Conference play against St. Leo with game time set for 2 p.m.
