Women's Basketball Skins Bobcats For 8th Win

MIAMI LAKES, Fla.—The 18th-ranked Barry Buccaneers used a 9-2 run over the last 4:33 to beat the St. Thomas Bobcats 50-43 in women’s basketball action at Miami Lakes Tech Gym on Thursday night.

The Bobcats (6-3) tied the game at 41-41 with 4:46 remaining on a pair of free throws by Cindy Castrillon. But the Bucs (8-1), who hit just two of their first 10 shots from the free throw line, connected on their final five. Kristy Singletary and Mariesa Greene scored the final nine points for the Bucs.

The Bucs led by three at the half, 22-19, as Princess Bailey had 11 points and nine rebounds in the period.

The Bobcats roared back in the second period, taking a 35-33 lead on a layup by Santana Lennon at the 9:24 mark.

Bailey led the Bucs with 16 points and added 12 rebounds, while Greene had 10 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. Dominique Collier led St. Thomas with 13 points and 16 rebounds, while Castrillon added 12 points.

The Bucs return to action in the Health & Sports Center on Thursday, Dec. 18 taking on second-ranked Washburn at 6:00 pm as part of the Cruzin’ Classic.
