SAINT LEO, Fla.—The Barry University men’s basketball team lost to the Saint Leo Lions (12-10, 5-4 SSC) for the second time this season on Saturday night, falling 67-54 at the Bowman Athletic Center.
In the first half, the Buccaneers (7-13, 2-8 SSC) jumped out to a 10-4 lead led by six points by Willie Whitfield. The Lions quickly jumped back in the game, holding Barry scoreless for nearly ten minutes while they racked up 12 points.
The Bucs fought back with the help of Zach Trapp and Jamaal Madyun who combined for eight points in less than two minutes to help the Bucs take a 20-19 lead. The Lions would regain the lead and enter halftime down 32-24.
The Bucs got close in the second half when Madyun hit two three pointers within a minute to help put the Bucs within four at 36-32 with 16:57 remaining in the game. The Lions pushed the lead back to 11 off of sharp shooting by Quentin Cullop and Jordan Prais who combined for 13 points in 12 minutes.
Ultimately, the Lions proved too much for the Bucs, as they went on to win 67-54.
For the Buccaneers, Willie Whitfield had a double-double with 18 points and 10 boards. Madyun added 12, all three-pointers.
The Buccaneers return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at home against Eckerd at 7:30 pm.
