Men's Tennis Blanks Sailfish

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry men’s tennis team swept the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 9-0 at the Buccaneer Tennis Center on Thursday.
 
The Bucs (2-0) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles. Ales Svigelj and Sergio Velez made short work of Tyler Dealy and John Tilton 8-1 at number two doubles. Roman Werschel and Marcello D’Armas were nearly as efficient, winning 8-2 over James Buerkle and Lukas Colombo at number three. Emanuel Fraitzl and Max Wimmer closed out the sweep with an 8-3 decision over Krasimir Atanasov and Luke Bolanos at the top flight.
 
In singles, Jakub Fejfar shutout Colombo 6-0, 6-0 at number six, while Velez handled Tilton 6-0, 6-1 at number five to clinch the win. Werschel beat Dealy 6-1, 6-0 at number three and Wimmer rolled over Buerkle 6-1, 6-2 at number three.
 
At number two, Fraitzl took down Bolanos 6-2, 6-4. The Sailfish (0-1) earned their only set win at number one singles as Svigelj and Atanasov split sets with Svigelj winning 6-3 in the first and Atanasov took the second 7-5. With the match already decided they played a super tiebreaker for the point with Svigelj coming out ahead 10-8.
 
The Bucs open Sunshine State Conference play on Saturday, Feb. 7 at noon against Saint Leo.
