Women's Softball Loses Season Opener

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University softball team (0-1) lost their season opener on Friday evening to the Palm Beach Atlantic Sharks (3-0) 1-0 at Buccaneer Field. The game was the first in the Barry-Nova Southeastern Invitational Softball Tournament.

Solid pitching by Barry’s Amber Jack and PBA’s Ashley Jones got both held both teams scoreless through seven innings.

The lone run of the evening came in the eighth inning came when Abbey Shipmann was placed on second base as part of international tie-breaking rules. Shipmann got to third on Candace Horton’s sacrifice bunt, and reached the plate when Brittany Schneider blasted a single to left field.

The Buccaneers had three hits and an error while PBA had four hits and no errors. The Buccaneers return to action on Saturday, Feb 6 against St. Thomas at 2:30 pm and UNC-Pembroke at 4:45 pm.
