Softball Drops Pair At Captain D's Classic

DAHLONEGA, Ga.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped both games on the first day of the Captain D’s Classic at North Georgia’s Peeler Complex on Friday.
The Bucs (12-7) fell to Columbus State 3-1 in the opener. Brianna Smith (5-2) took the loss. She allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and six walks in the complete game.
Natalie Heeley knocked in Grace Collins with a single in the fourth inning for the Bucs’ lone run.
Kristi Bullard (5-8) picked up the win for CSU (10-15), going the distance and hold the Bucs to one run on five hits. She walked four and struck out four.
In the nightcap, the Bucs rallied from a 2-0 deficit to force extra innings, but came up empty in the bottom of the ninth on the international tie-breaker to give host #9 North Georgia the 4-3 win.
Heeley knock in Ashley Likens with a single in the fourth and belted a solo homer, her first of the season in the sixth.
Amber Jack (7-5) took the loss for the Bucs. She gave up eight hits, including a solo homer to Courtney McGuire in the first inning, and struck out six without a walk.
Sarah Phillips (7-1) earned the extra-inning win for the second time this season over the Bucs. She went the distance, scattering nine hits and two walks, while striking out five.
The Bucs will face the Cougars and Saints again tomorrow in the final day of the tournament.
