ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.— The Barry University women’s tennis team earned another road win on Saturday morning, beating the Flagler College Saints 6-0.
The Bucs (9-4) easily won all three doubles matches to take an early lead. In number one doubles, Angie Werschel and Yulia Kashelkina defeated Chelsi de Cuba and Chelsea Taylor 8-3. In number two doubles, Mei-Jing Ang and Lamie Contreras beat Deon Miller and Jennifer Saviano 8-2. In the final doubles spot, Berit Peterson and Caroline Wendling beat Veronica Figueroa and Fernanda Ospina 8-3.
In singles action, the Bucs took the top three of six matches. In number one singles, Werschel beat de Cuba 6-1, 6-3. In number two doubles, Wendling beat Figueroe 6-1, 6-3. At number three, Kashelkina beat Miller 6-3, 6-3.
With the Bucs up six matches to none, the final three singles matches were played by super tie breaker rules, with Flagler (6-5) coming out ahead in all three, though no points were awarded.
The Bucs return on Tuesday, March 17 against Division I UMASS at 3:00 pm.
