CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Barry University baseball team gave the Miami Hurricanes a scare and then some, as the Bucs tied the game in the seventh, but the Hurricanes tallied five runs in the bottom of the seventh and held on for the 15-10 victory Wednesday night.

The Bucs (28-4) struck first as Yudelmis Hernandez reached on an error, which was followed by a grand slam by Manny Pedrozo to give the Bucs an early 4-0.

Joel Keefe added a solo homer in the second to boost the lead to five.

Miami (21-7) then began to find their offense, as the Hurricanes tallied the next nine runs, including a big five-run fourth.

The Bucs continued to stay close, as Nick Shaw led off the seventh inning with a solo homer to cut the Hurricanes lead to 10-7.

With two runners on, Hernandez chased them both home with an opposite field three-run home run to tie the game at 10.

Miami didn’t let the game stay tied long, as a five-spot in the bottom of the inning provided the difference, as Dave DiNatale had the big hit to help break it open with a two-run double with the bases-loaded.

With Sunshine State Conference action starting again Friday, the Bucs threw several pitchers at the ‘Canes, as eight pitchers saw action.

Brian Milanes and T.J. Mullins worked the most innings, with each dealing two innings.

The game also featured a matchup of Santana brothers, with Jason starting for Miami and getting the no-decision, while Brian ended up with the loss for the Bucs.

Barry will jump back into SSC play this Friday when they welcome in Saint Leo for the first of a three-game set beginning at 6 p.m.
