MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Florida Southern Moccasins squeaked out a 3-2 win over the Barry Buccaneers in the first game of a Sunshine State Conference softball series on Friday night.
 
The Mocs (32-10, 10-3) scored two unearned runs in the first inning on an error and Sara Lovestrand belted a solo homer in the fifth, which ended up the winning run.
 
The Bucs plated two. In the second inning, Jessica Tabor singled up the middle to bring in pinch runner Julia Chongarlides and Cassy Zamora, pinch running for Tabor in the sixth, scored on a single by Shyla Rider.
 
Amber Jack (15-7) took the loss for the Bucs (22-11, 7-3 SSC). She allowed three hits and just one earned run in the complete game and struck out six.
 
Brittany Minton (12-5) earned the win. She allowed two runs on eight hits and walked one without striking out a batter.
 
The series concludes with a doubleheader at 1:00 pm on Saturday.
