MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— The Barry University men’s tennis team capped off the regular season on Monday afternoon by blanking cross-town rival St. Thomas 9-0.
In doubles action, Emanuel Fraitzl and Roman Werschel defeated Adrian Escarte and Fredrico Acevedo 8-5. At the number two spot, Sergio Velez and Jakub Fejfar beat Jeremy Bache and William Fountain 8-1. In number three doubles, Marcello D’Armas and David Barrigan downed Andrew Rifkin and Ricardo Marguez 8-2.
In singles action, Werschel earned the win at the number one spot, beating Adrian Escarte 6-1, 7-6 (7-2). At number two, Fraitzl beat Bache 6-3, 6-3. Fejfar took the number three spot by beating Fountain 6-3, 7-5. At the four spot, Velez beat Rifkin 6-2, 6-1. In number five singles, D’Armas beat Kenneth Evans 6-2, 6-2. David Barrigan finished the sweep for the Bucs, beating Acevedo 6-3, 6-1 in the six spot.
The Bucs celebrated Senior Day prior to the match, honoring three year letter winner Roman Werschel. In three seasons, Werschel has racked up a 35-20 singles record and a 39-28 record in doubles. This year, Werschel finished the regular season with an 18-2 singles record, one of the best in school history.
The Bucs will return to action on Thursday, April 16 in the SSC tournament, hosted by Lynn University.
