MELBOURNE, Fla. – The offense certainly wasn’t lacking on Tuesday afternoon as the Barry University baseball team put up 30 runs on their way to rolling past Florida Tech 30-8 in non-conference action at Seminick-Hall Field.

The Bucs (32-4) tied a school record for largest margin of victory at 22, set Mar. 7, 1991 against Catholic (32-10) and tied Feb. 11, 1998 against Nova Southeastern (28-6). The 30 runs are also the second-highest total in school history, behind the 32 scored against Catholic.

With four home runs in the game, the Bucs also set the school record for home runs with now 74 on the season, breaking the previous record of 72 set back in 2001.

The game got out of reach early, as Barry tallied eight runs over the first three innings, with a five-spot coming in the second inning.

In the second frame, Mitch Rodriguez drilled a solo home run, Danny Lima tallied an RBI single and Yas Gutierrez walked with the bases-loaded to expand the lead to 6-0.

Manny Pedrozo and Gomes delivered two-run singles in the sixth to help put the game out of reach, while Gomes and Yas Gutierrez went back-to-back in the eighth inning, the third time this season the pair has done so.

Gomes and Yudelmis Hernandez each finished with 5 RBI apiece, and Nick Shaw added 4 RBI. Gomes, Rodriguez and Chris Leon each rapped out four hits, while Hernandez, Rodriguez and Leon each scored four runs.

The Bucs batted around in the second, sixth, eighth and ninth innings, sending a total of 64 men to the plate.

Corey Witkowski (4-0) went five innings to record his fourth win of the season, as he allowed two earned runs on five hits, while walking two and striking out seven.

Barry will jump back into Sunshine State Conference when they play at Florida Southern on Thursday beginning at 7 p.m.
